Innovation through modular product design is a promising strategy for lifetime extension and material recyclability. Yet, sustainability benefits of the do not automatically come into effect, but require additional process innovation service activities that have to be attractive made use by users. This study investigates what extent sustainability-focused in smartphone sector promotes (1) self-repair versus repair (2) positive user experience with instructions services.
